Jonjoli is an unusual appetizer made with pickled sprouts from a Georgian native shrub of the same name, most commonly seasoned with salt, oil, and onions.
They are picked just before bloom and pickled. Their taste resembles that of capers, it can be eaten on their own or with various dishes. They taste incredible and are best served with Lobio (Georgian bean stew), as well as with boiled potatoes or with Georgian corn bread mchadi together with cheese.
Jonjoli is rich in vitamin C, B, Potassium, Phosphorus, Magnesium and other nutrients and is also known to contain natural insulin. Jonjoli is also an antioxidant and beneficial for the immune/digestive system, reproductive system, and helps regulate blood pressure and improve memory. Chinese traditional medicine uses one of the leaves of Jonjoli as a cough remedy.
